Made Somewhere explores three unique trending typefaces and type styles that all have a contemporary execution to a classic type style.
This week we explore three unique typefaces that all have a contemporary execution to a classic type style. These are Pitch Sans by Kris Sowersby, Linotype Brewery No 2 by Gustav Grinbergs, and GT Alpina by Reto Moser.
Pitch Sans by Kris Sowersby
Firstly, those with a love of typewriter styles will quickly fall in love with this typeface. A classic typewriter feel with a clean and contemporary approach. Designed by Kris Sowersby, this typeface has picked up multiple global awards, such as the Tokyo TDC Annual Awards, Book Selection, 2019, Graphis Typography 4, Silver, 2018, and the Best Awards, Design Craft, Gold Pin, 2018.
Linotype Brewery No 2 by Gustav Grinbergs
Secondly, let’s look at Linotype Brewery. First designed in 1997 by Gustav Andrejs Grinbergs and reimagined in 2012 by the same type designer. Linotype Brewery is an improved version of its precursor, and the typeface has been both extended and enhanced. The characters are based on geometric forms with contrasting serifs and line weights, unique to the individual type style.
GT Alpina by Reto Moser
Finally, designed by Reto Moser and first released in 2020, this typeface is expressive and distinctive, playing on historical serifs with a modern execution. The family is extensive, from condensed, standard, and extended options and a typewriter style too. What’s not to love about this versatile typeface!?
